The best love stories always start early in a couple’s life and last a lifetime. This is exactly this kind of story. Back in 2008, Creandum was only 5 years old and Sorosh Tavakoli had just finished his studies. He had also just founded an amazing business called Videoplaza which aimed to bring video ads online. It was love at first sight. Inevitably, a couple of months later, Creandum II led Videoplaza’s first funding round, from where we witnessed Sorosh scale the company into a successful exit to Ooyala in 2014.

After a few years with Ooyala when Sorosh started thinking about his next venture, we were naturally curious about what that would be and stayed close to him during his explorations of new ideas. Today we’re exceptionally happy to announce that to celebrate our relationship entering into a third decade, Creandum V is investing into Sorosh’s new company Noquo Foods.

Climate change.

The impact of our behavior on the environment has never been more clear. Fires are blazing across Australia as we write this, California gets burned every year, and floods and cyclones devastated Thailand, Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, the Bahamas, and many other countries throughout 2019. On the positive side, environmental awareness is at a record high across the world and people are ready to fight for change. The climate strikes of September assembled over 6 million people. Older and younger generations seem to be uniting to bring about change. It also makes us proud to see that Swedish people are at the forefront of this movement, with our very own Greta Thunberg spreading this message all over the world.

How and what we eat is one significant factor into climate change. Livestock alone contributes nearly 2/3 of agriculture’s greenhouse and 78% of its methane emissions. This is where Noquo Foods comes in.

Everyone loves cheese! 🧀🧀🧀

Cheese is awesome! Cheese is everywhere! On pizza, on fries, on nachos, in pasta, in salads, in deserts… In fact, in the European Union, we consume on average almost 19 kilos of Cheese per year! That’s the equivalent of having 5 servings of Mac and Cheese per week, every week! Yummy!

The big problem is that, unfortunately, producing one kilo of cheese emits even more CO2 than producing one kilo of pork. A second problem is that plant-based cheese simply sucks… Current offerings are always either without texture, without taste or way too expensive.

Noquo Foods is here to save us from this by using science to bring you the next generation amazingly tasting plant-based cheese. Anja Leissner and Sorosh are already hard at work in the lab, and we couldn’t be more proud to join this adventure together with our friends at Northzone, Inventure, Kale United, and Astanor.

Let’s save the world one slice of cheese at the time!
